My psa started out at 179 in March 2009. With hormone treatment of Lupron and Flutamide. My last psa in October 2009 was 0.05, at what point is your cancer considered in remission?

In our clinic, we require a PSA of less than 0.01 ng/ml. With a PSA of 179 ng/ml, it is also likely you had cancer in your bones or enlarged lymph nodes. We would require that any bone lesions heal and any enlarged lymph nodes return to normal size. Typically, bone lesions would not heal on Lupron. At that point, despite a low PSA, we would consider moving to second line hormonal therapy in order to get a complete healing of the bone lesions. We do this because a portion of the men in complete remission will remain in remission for years, perhaps permanently.
