Folks, on August 13th I’ll be celebrating my first anniversary of participating in online conversation. It also happens to be my birthday.
When I initially posted to a bulletin board I was looking to spread the gospel of penile injections for ED, and I thought that would be the end of it.
My husband had had an RP about 10 months before (Oct. 15, ’05), and since then we had not had “normal sex”. We were advised to learn to “use our bodies in different ways”. Easier said than done. I did learn to French-kiss at forty-something, but things just weren’t the same.
Also, your mother doesn’t teach you how to, uh . . . manually stimulate a man. And “Ol’ Man River” must have surely known somethin,’ but he “didn’t say nothin’ (as usual). So I had to learn by trial and error.
I was stroking his penis in largo, e.g., slow and gentle, but I eventually learned that it only worked if I speeded up the tempo and the pressure, do it in allegro vivace, maybe.
Eventually we found a top-notch ED doctor who gave dear husband an injectible potion called Trimix. Like all guys, DH was not exactly keen on shooting up *there*. But after Dr. Melman gave him the first shot, his fears vanished. (He says to tell all you guys that it can be done. Don’t give up.)
Now this was SEX!!! Better than the real thing. Erections came in XL and above only. I am sure for a guy who hadn’t “seen action” down there in almost a year, this was a most welcome sight. And with Trimix *you* are in control. Just like with the Tempur-pedic bed, *you* set the firmness. And the pace. You can go on forever as long as time is no object.
Our first session with the elixir was proceeding at a leisurely pace when I happened to glance at the clock. I noticed it was coming up on an hour. I was getting a little tired, but being the competitive type I decided to go for a record — I held out for exactly an hour and a minute. Then I collapsed. Boy, did I need a drink and a Power Bar! But that was just a “dry run.”
I must tell you, dear readers, that if you take a breather, a “seventh-inning stretch” so to speak, you *can* even have a “double-header”. If you so desire.
Anyway, them came August 13, my birthday, and DH got me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Monochromatic, pink and purple tones. Exquisite. I am a “flower child” in the sense that there is nothing I love more in the world than some pretty blossoms.
That same day DH went off to Vermont on a bike trip, and I became the “Trimix lady”. I had never had an interest in online conversation, but I felt I had an almost sacred duty to tell the world about this miracle cure for ED. So I rhapsodized a bit about it in alt.impotence and alt.support.cancer.prostate. I thought this would be a one-time thing. But then I got some nice notes from people in the groups (as well as some propositions), and I became hooked on prostate cancer conversation.
The biggest problem with injections for ED is that men are very put off by the prospect of “shooting up” there. But these fears can be overcome. After dear husband’s first shot at the doctor’s office, his fears went away.
Also, injections have been shown to play a role in “penile rehabilitation,” or restoring natural erectile function after surgery. Other methods have *not been proven* to do this. I have been researching and speaking out about penile rehab for almost a year, and this is something I will definitely be focusing on here.
Like everything, injections have a downside. You have to be sure to do it on both sides of the penis. Or you can end up with a “Leaning Tower of Penis.”
I just wrote to someone that Trimix could give an erection to a corpse who was doing his taxes:-))

Leah: I appreciate your candor and Old Man River’s willingness to share your “findings”. This adventure of PCa is all over the board and only by sharing our discoveries as patients and families can the whole, holistic, and quality of life story be pieced together. Thanks for the contribution of your couple’s journey–shared.
Leah, your posts are always informative, insightful, and a pleasant read. Happy “first anniversary” — which I trust you and Ted will celebrate well. Thanks to both of you for your openness in sharing what you’ve learned.
I was referred to your blog from the Circle and I’m so glad to have found you. We all need some humor, but I also feel your warmth and your wisdom. I will be a regular from now on. Thank you.
Just started trimix since my rrp 3mo ago, and yes sure dose work, still alittle apprehension with the needle, but that is nothing when you begin to feel the surge feeling as you start to inflate, 🙂 and even tho there is no fluid during orgasm, it’s a prolonged orgasm, great feeling,, i would like to hear from some other users, and your thoughts. thanks
Two years ago, looking for an alternative to Viagra, whose side effects (headache, blocked sinuses, nasty stiff neck, general ill feeling) were increasingly annoying, I discussed the issue with my urologist who recommended TriMix. Once past the initial apprehension of sticking a needle in Mr. Happy (a very easy transition since it is an easily tolerable minor prick, if you’ll excuse the choice of words), I have, at the age of 67, become an evangelist for the drug. Using it at least 5 times a week (my wife is, shall we say, very energetic when it comes to sex), it is, as my doctor says, truly the “Wonder Shot”. Instant, long lasting, no side effects. Just incredible. Anyone who suffers from ED, is looking for a solution, and doesn’t explore this wonderful alternative is doing themselves a great disservice.
What is the typical formula of trimix?
I believe it is papaverine, phentolamine and alprostadil (prostaglandin). If you want to learn more about this subject, I suggest you join the prostate pointers mailing list “PC and Intimacy”. Can’t recommend it enough. http://www.prostatepointers.org/mlist/mlist.html
They also have their own “wiki” where they store information for reference.

Leah,
Wow, your info is changing how I look at things. My husband is reluctant, but at least he knows how important this is to me. At first, I was disheartened that it isn’t THAT important to him, but I think the shot thing has him spooked.
In any case, things are getting better since I read your information. I thought it was “all over” but am finding out that just isn’t so. I’m looking forward to us getting better and better now that I found this website.
Thank you so much, you can’t imagine how much you’ve helped people.

This is not working for my husband, he has three bottles frozen and we are not having sex. Is he cheating or what?
It is stated to NOT freeze these hormones on the instructions as such will destroy the effect. Also, good info but my urologist says one should wait 48 hours between injections…is that necessary?
Had surgery for prostrate cancer on 2/17/11. Dr prescribed Trimix in April. Used
5 cc nothing happened. Next night used 10 cc it was ok. Very sore took 1.5 hrs to go down. Next time used 10 cc again nothing happened. A little sore.
Jumped to 12 cc had a great time but erection lasted 2 hours and very sore. Took 2 extra strength Tylenol , 2 sudafed and ice. Did not help.
Dr doesn’t want to change mixture. Wants me to try 10 cc again or go to 11 if 10 doesn’t work. Is trail and error normal? Is extreme soreness and two hour erection normal? I’m only 61.
Dear Steve,
As you know, I am not a doctor. But I can tell you that trial and error is normal with Trimix. You eventually learn to “titrate the dose”, which is just a fancy word for getting it right. And yes, you can have soreness, but it’s not normal. My husband had it once and he was pretty unhappy. Yes, you can have long erections with Trimix. Once, my husband was just about hitting the 4-hour mark, you know when you’re supposed to go to the ER. Try NOT to have longer erections because this can damage the penile tissue.
I suggest that you join the prostatepointers.org group called “PC and intimacy”. There are people in the group who are very knowledgeabe about this subject, although, like me, they are not docs.

For those of you haveing little luck with the trimix there is a Qudmix they just added atropine to the mix..
Steve,
Your Doctor can have Lidocaine added to the Tri-Mix to reduce or eliminate the pain.
I experienced this problem and Lidocaine was the solution.

Hi Leah ,
I had a radical prostatectomy in March this year , was 66 in June and in the same month my wife and me passed our 41 anniversary .Phew ! Medals ?
I am in UK ,where our health system is different to yours.
I would just like to pass on my thanks for your blog .I stumbled on it on Google but am relectant to say what words I used as a strap to ‘Google’ I found it amusing and informative but better than that, I found it encouraging .
I had just received a phone call from my General Practioner to say they will NOT prescribe the cialis that my consultant ( we refer to specialist sugeon as ‘our consultant ‘ ) had prescribed might help my/our problem.
Well done you ….and kind regards to you and your husband. Thanks

I haven’t had prostrate surgery or such; but am impotent due to blood pressure and anti depressives. I’m 61 and pills (Viagra, Levitra, Cealis, etc worked for awhile but eventually became ineffective). I’d given up on having a sex life, which is sad at 61 and sadder if you’re wife is 39 and has a libido that doesn’t have an “off” switch. Anyway, our marriage suffered because we had to make so many compromises to keep things going (I’ll not go into detail but some are considered “not mainstream”). Got the “tip” on trimix from my younger diabetic brother who nagged the hell out of me to give it a try. Yeh, I’ll try it, but the “needle thing” was really my big hang up. Anyway, I got a urologist who thought it was a swell idea. Showed me everything about the injection (got one) and everything was hunky Dory. Since I had little reaction to 15 units, he suggested I go up by 10 units (25) for my trial run with wife. Well, I took 30; close to 25 right? And had amazing sex with my wife for the first time in about 10 years. It was great! I went to sleep after almost 2 solid hours of mind blowing sex. Big mistake. Woke up with priaprisim and wound up in ER. Such fun! Not deterred, and having to wait almost a month to heal (believe me guys it’s no fun). I tried again, 15 units this time and bang! It worked again. Still the erection lasted almost 6 hours before relenting. Moral of story, don’t fall asleep if you still have an erection and listen to Leah. There is trial and error with trimix and dosage, but once you get the “sweet spot”; your life will change.
This is in response to Steve, May 21, 2011, just to clarify. Surely you are not taking 10-12 cc of tri-mix! I use 0.4 cc & Doc says I could go up to 0.9 & then, he would suggest a different “blend”. There is some trial & error involved. I have erections that last a couple of hours, depending on stimulation.
A friend of mine runs some of the Male Performance Clinics in TX introduced me to TRIMIX about 6 months ago and I can not be thankful enough,, It was a little nerve wrecking at first but after about the 7th time of injecting myself I have no hesitations about the process, It did not take long to get my doses correct so that I do not need antidote any more. that took about 2 weeks and I use every two days. I am starting to get natural erections almost every morning and threw out the day. I prefer the semi auto injector to the fully auto because I inject low on one side and higher on the other side of my penis. which makes my penis bigger in girth and it just seems to work better for me.and the girth is there now with my natural erections.I had no problems jumping feet first into this great thing and any man who has a healthy apatite for sex should not be afraid and jump in and please there lady’s,, they wont stop smiling!!! FYI,,,I have at least for myself, if you hafta knock it down a worm or hot shower or bath will do it and if not your mix needs to be adjusted. I had to adjust mine several times in the first few weeks,, I think my member forgot what it was like to stand up strait at first but not any more. I would like to thank the great staff Doctors and my good friend at The Men’s Performance Center In Cow Town FT Worth TX.
i am a 42yr old type 1 diabetic. though my condition is different from what i have read here, i share a side effect. my ED became an issue as i grew older till about 4yrs ago it stopped functioning all together. combined with PE this made intercourse a distant dream. i had tried oral medications which worked for a short time and after they stopped working i had all but given up. a yr ago i heard a commercial on the radio for a doctor here in FL that guaranteed success or your money back. as a corner store clerk it was 6 months before i had the free capital, $200, to make the appointment. After they checked for blood flow they gave me a test injection. a few minutes latter they checked on me for results. though i felt like it had no effect they claimed i had a 90% reaction to the test injection. they immediately went into the sales pitch for trimix and a auto injector. the trimix $145 for 5 doses and $195 for the auto injector. By this time i felt they maybe taking advantage of men with
