Everyone knows that exercise is good for both people with and without cancer, including advanced prostate cancer. For us advanced prostate cancer survivors, going on and off therapy probably makes exercise evn more important than for the general population. It is well known that people with stronger, leaner bodies have more energy, are healthier and basically feel better (both physically and psychologically).

Regular exercise will improve your mood mood, it will also boosts your self-confidence and reduces fatigue. There is even evidence suggesting that higher levels of physical activity can help keep your cancer from recurring.

To help survivors get their groove back, LIVESTRONG has partnered with the YMCA to offer a free 12 week, small group exercise programs for adult cancer survivors. The program is designed so that YMCA fitness instructors work with each participant to fit their individual program to their individual needs.

What makes the program even more impressive is that the instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, including post rehab exercise and supportive cancer care. So, what are you waiting for, find out if there is a YMCA near you that provides this free exercise program. There is an excellent chance that your neighborhood YMCA is participating.

Additionally, for those living in New York, specifically Long Island, there is an additional free exercise program called Strength for Life. This program provides free 8 week exercise classes both during and after treatment. In addition, they give exercise equipment to each client to keep. Their Certified Cancer Exercise Specialists will design an individual exercise program based on your specific needs.

So, exercise under the watchful eye of a trained instructor for free.
