The fairness of increasing cancer research funding in FY2010 comes into question during House and Senate hearings. See my post of May 23, 2009:

Senator Harkin and the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Hold Hearings on the Budget Allocations to the NCI for Cancer Research

Two leading appropriators in the House and Senate have expressed reservations about President Obama’s plan to double the government’s spending on cancer research.

We need to TAKE ACTION NOW!

COMPREHENSIVE CANCER LEGISLATION ON HOLD

21st Century Cancer ALERT Act on temporary hold while Congress focuses on health care reform.

Given the present urgency in Congress to pass health care reform by August, Senators Kennedy and Hutchison have elected to put their comprehensive cancer legislation, the 21st Century ALERT Act, on temporary hold so that they and their colleagues can focus on one priority at a time.

Aides to both senators have given the cancer community assurance that the lawmakers are committed to the ALERT Act and will work toward its advancement once health care reform is accomplished.

CONTACT YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND TELL THEM YOU WANT FUNDING FOR CANCER RESEARCH TO BE AT LEAST AT THE LEVELS PROPOSED BY PRESIDENT OBAMA. TELL THEM THAT THE KENNEDY 21ST CENTURY ALERT ACT needs to be considered now.
