In the twenty years since I led Malecare’s first prostate cancer support group, this is the first time I have written an annual letter. Through the upturns and downturns, Malecare has always been a voice of optimism and powerful advocate for men diagnosed with prostate cancer. As we enter 2018, we are more energized than ever to engage more and more men in Malecare programs.

I am loath to use clichés like “empowered” or “informed;” those undervalue the extraordinary force-of-change that Malecare creates.  Nothing makes me cringe more than when a corporate sponsor thanks us for “helping men.” Malecare is more than a support group network, more than a place for men to learn about cancer and more than a research group.

Malecare helps men create a better tomorrow for themselves. Malecare is a set of conversations, materials, and tools for helping men restore their wellbeing and reason-to-live after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Our men prove the value of Malecare programs every day by living longer and happier lives.

Our group leaders tell new members that their doctors will repair their bodies and their Malecare support group will repair their lives. Malecare is a way for men diagnosed with prostate cancer to tell the world that our lives and our dreams matter. Malecare is the way men tell the world that prostate cancer will not stop me from living brilliantly.  Join your brothers in our advanced or newly diagnosed support groups at https://healthunlocked.com/advanced-prostate-cancer and https://healthunlocked.com/prostate-cancer-community
