At each successive stage of my metastatic cancer journey I become fearful then somehow regain hope.
I know that if I ever lose hope, I’M doomed.

Hi, Joel,
Your three verses are reminiscent of the view that it’s not our circumstances that determine our future, but our response to our circumstances that either raises us up or brings us down.
Perhaps Mark Twain put it best in the 19th Century, when he stated that “Aging is an issue of mind over matter: If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
By the same token, fear is an issue of mind over matter. If we don’t mind, our fear will disappear, only to be replaced with hope.
