You may live longer if you feel good about life while taking radium-223 (Xofigo). Dr Neal Shore from the Carolina Urologic Research Center studied how health related quality of life (HRQoL) might be related to overall survival while being treated for advanced prostate cancer with Xofigo.

Approximately 800 men with advanced prostate cancer were asked to complete a commonly used survey instrument (FACT-P). Every 10-point increase in FACT-P total score from baseline (ie, improvement) was associated with an 18-21% decreased risk of death.

Improvement in HRQoL was associated with better overall survival for men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer while being treated with Xofigo. HRQoL strategies can be found in Malecare’s online advanced prostate cancer support group
