Recently I started reading the wildly popular book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey for the second time. My older brother recommended it to me a few years ago and since then I have had many effective moments and not so effective moments. I feel like Covey wrote the book as a family man first, and a corporate trainer second.  This family/business dichotomy is what makes the book valuable to me as I’m trying, with some success, to juggle multiple projects and roles in life. My son and wife are always my first priorities, but I’ll tell you that the necessity to earn more money is the second.  Also, an overarching theme in Covey’s book is the old idea of changing what you can, accepting what you cannot change, and knowing the difference between the two. As so many of us push into 2007 with renewed hope for the future I wonder out loud “what the hell can I change?” And I ask myself at what point do you tell the world to kiss your black ass and that you aren’t changing a darn thing? Hee, hee, hee.
