The lead article on my PC newswire today declared that frequent masturbation may prevent prostate cancer. A few weeks ago I read a similar article which stated that “frequent ejaculation” may prevent PC, but only if the activity is done when the man is in his 20’s. I can just imagine parents sitting their sons down and urging them to “gather their rosebuds while they may”. But there is a contrary opinion: a doctor at the Mayo Clinic said in response to a question from a reader that frequent ejaculations do not affect the risk of developing prostate cancer in any way. But it might just give you a good time.
There are also several studies that have shown a link between sexual promiscuity and PC, which this article does mention. So what’s a man to do??
Answer: I’m not a doctor so I can’t give you medical advice. But I do think, regardless of these studies, that men will continue to do what they’ve been doing forever, masturbating and having sex. In other words, they are already taking this “medicine” and they’re unlikely to give it up. So why fund all these expensive studies?

Study: Masturbation May Prevent Prostate Cancer
Wednesday, April 23, 2008
Men who frequently masturbate appear to have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer, Australian researchers reported.
Researchers from the Cancer Council of Victoria found that men who masturbated more than five times each week were one-third less likely to develop the cancer.
The study surveyed 1,000 men who developed prostate cancer and 1,250 who did not, and all were between the ages of 20 and 50, according to a report on Monday on the gay and lesbian news site PlanetOut.
Researchers told the BBC last week that the prostate produces one of the fluids involved in ejaculation and that frequent masturbation appears to flush out carcinogens.
Sexual intercourse may not have the same effect because it increases the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease, which could raise the risk of cancer, the Web site reported.

what about masterbating when you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, good or bad?
Ed,
I am not aware of any studies about masturbation affecting things one way or another after one has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. So my suggestion is for you to do what works to make your life better, because a cancer diagnosis is not easy to take.
Good Luck,
Leah

I think that’s pretty much it. Could you imagine if the studies said *not* masturbating led to reduced risk of PC? 😉
