Yesterday in an article in the Gotham Gazette an interesting question was posed by author Mark Berkey-Gerard: Can Fathering Be Taught? My immediate response was “of course.” And I stand by that idea whole heartedly, however I think a more appropriate question is born from Mr. Berkey-Gerard’s. My question is: Why is it necessary to teach fathering, especially to African American fathers?  Over time I want to develop an answer to that question. All help and suggestions are welcome.        Â
Its necessary to teach fathering because many of us did not have good role models to learn from. Though we may have had uncles and other man-ly figures in our lives, there are those little quarks you don’t see unless the person is living with you are you are around them all the time.
