UPDATE June &, 2016 4:30 PM EST
We won. The Durbin Amendment to save all cancer research funding at the Department of Defense passed 66-32, saving the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), which includes an important prostate cancer funding resource.
Thank you to everyone from Malecare Cancer Support and all of our partner organizations for sending in your emails and making your phone calls. Three cheers for you!

To see how your Senators voted on this important matter go to the bottom of this post.  If your Senator voted YEA send an email thanking them.  However, if they voted NAY send them an email expressing your very serious unhappiness.

Senator John McCain (R) is up to it again. He is trying to eliminate all funding for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) within the Department of Defense (DoD) – inclusive of the Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCPR).

This research program has been involved in the development of most of our newer drugs to treat advanced prostate cancer! We cannot allow this misguided senator to cut us off at the knees. We need the DoD funding to continue our efforts to conquer prostate cancer. Malecare urges everyone to immediately get behind the Durbin amendment to the proposed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will be debated by the U.S. Congress next week.

As it currently is the proposed NDAA will eliminate the entire Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) Program within the Department of Defense. This would include the elimination of the Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCPR) as well as other cancer research programs. The PCRP is the largest source of federal funding designated exclusively for prostate cancer research. We can not allow it to go away.

Senator Durbin’s proposed amendment to the NDAA would ensure that the entire CDMRP, as well as the Prostate Cancer Research Program will continue to exist as an important and viable source of funding for cancer research.

Each and everyone one of families, as well as our friends, and us need to email their Senators’ offices and to ask that they support the Durbin amendment to the NCAA.
