Recently I was working on a program proposal and began searching the internet for some background information on my topic. I typed a term cross-referencing “black” with “dads” and another word (I won’t mention the exact phrase) into a popular search engine, and I came up with porn. At that moment, I realized that black dads have little to no positive representation on the internet, and this blog is me speaking to that problem. For over three years, I have been researching fathering issues and developing programs for fathers. I came across what I found when I was searching for information on black dads I knew it was time to change the scope of my work and focus it where there was a real gap to be filled. Don’t worry. I won’t always be this serious when I am posting. I just felt that it should be clear on how I got to this point and how I finally found my where my heart is.
It’s about time someone did a blog like this. We African American dad’s need a voice.
Thanks man, I really appreciate that. It’s a work in progess, but I think it’s the “progress” part I’m going to focus on. -Keith
I think that was a good blog. I commend you on your effort on trying to better yourself as a “black man” and a “black father”. There needs to be more men like you.
