I’d like to take a second to quote the great poet Ice Cube:  “Today was a good day.”

Work was work, not good or bad.  My commute was terrible as usual.  It’s 9:30 and I haven’t gotten around to dinner yet.  But none none of that matters because my son was nice all day.  That little walking, talking horror show has been such a handful lately that today was a welcome reprieve from his usual antics.  Indeed, I have earned my parenting stripes over the last several weeks (and I’ve had some taken away, I must admit).  Today he was dropped off at daycare without a fuss.  At the end of the day he ran to me and gave me a hug when I picked him up from baby prison, I mean daycare.  He laughed and talked and cracked jokes about bodily functions during the commute home.  He took a shower and came out willingly.  He ate dinner without gagging, or procrastinating.  Then he went to bed and told me that he loved me too.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  It makes me forget about the other not-so-good days.

Today was one of the days that makes being a parent worth all of the effort, worry, struggles, and stress.  I hope you guys out there have many good days with your kids to cherish.  As for me, I hope my kid’s head doesn’t start spinning around anytime soon, and that he keeps the green projectile vomit to himself.    Â
