Curcumin is thought to have anti-cancer activity as well as to provide a synergistic effect with chemotherapy agents. Because of this Dr. Eloise Planchat of the Centre Jean Perrin, Division de Recherche Clinique, EA4231, Université d’Auvergne shared results from a prospective phase II study that assessed the impact of the combination of docetaxel (chemotherapy) plus Curcumin in men with castrate resistant advanced prostate cancer.
She reported that they found that docetaxel, when paired with Curcumin, had ”global” actions on prostate cancer tumors. She described the results as remarkable in comparison to the results of the pivotal Tax 327 study that was used to achieve the FDA approval of docetaxel.
In the study the researchers evaluated 30 men who received docetaxel at a dosage of 75 mg/m2 every three weeks along with curcumin orally at a dosage of 6g/day from day 4 to day 12 between docetaxel administrations.
Curcumin is available both in the foods we eat as well as a supplement.
